i saw this last night while watching the magic vs. celtics. great work once again from nike. it’s clever and very witty. i think the playful approach they took with dissecting the battle between lebron and kobe was quite comical. how the hype is on lebron (rightfully so) but kobe is the one with the three championship rings.
nike’s work with lebron is bringing the phenom to the masses in a way that doesn’t highlight basketball, aside from the dialogue. their “lebrons” campaign was great with spots including this one and this one. it’s all reminiscent of the jordan spots, including this one, with regards to lebron being nike’s largest asset, griping the screen as jordan once did in a nike spot. but with lebron it’s a much different approach, fresh to who lebron is (turning twenty-six this year). it’s showcasing lebron’s talents by way of acting and different voices in how he plays every character in the “lebrons” spots.
he’s even great in the sportscenter spots, such as this one, proving it’s not just the big money nike productions that bring the best out of lebron.
i’m certain nike cut a bunch more in their ‘puppets’ installment, betting that the nba finals will be cleveland vs. los angeles and the comical banter can continue. here’s hoping.
